‘Kind Heart Award’ for Rose of Golden Leaves charity
Rose Sutcliffe is the first recipient of Rapid Solicitors’ Kind Heart Award, for her services to local elderly people through her Golden Leaves organisation. Golden leaves is a charitable organisation with the aim of organising events and outings for the over 55s around Hull and the East Riding. The charity’s aims are to provide medical aid and equipment and to provide recreation and leisure-time activities for people who are socially isolated. The one-time Hull Daily Mail Charity of the Year was the original idea of Rose Sutcliffe and her close friend, the late Lynne Greening, who began Golden Leaves 15 years ago. Golden Leaves has continued over the years with the support of a small committee, and a band of loyal volunteers. All money raised goes to the people Rose wants to support. There are no costly premises, office or staff to support. Rose says that one of the main reasons for the success of the charity is that all of the fundraising events are lots of fun. Events have involved parachuting, bungee jumping, a Humber Bridge walk dressed as Elvis, fancy dress and sumo wrestling. Martin Ward of Rapid Solicitors said, “Rose is a wonderful woman who has worked tirelessly and unselfishly with her colleagues for many years for the benefit of others. It’s a pity we can’t name and reward everyone who works with Rose, for their contribution to Golden Leaves, but they know who they are. I know Rose will be a bit embarrassed to be singled out for praise in this way, because she thinks only of others. But we hope she’ll be secretly pleased, too! She is a very worthy winner of our Kind Heart Award.”
