Rapid Solicitors Kawasaki rider has lucky escape in serious road accident

Two times British Superbike Champion and double World Superbike race winner, Shane ‘Shakey’ Byrne had a lucky escape when he and his family were involved in a car accident abroad.
Shakey, who lives in Spain with his Czech model wife Petra and their two children, survived a 70mph head on crash only to then be knocked down by a car as he escaped the wreckage. Shakey tweeted “Bad day. Was in a multi-car pile-up early am, survived that in the pitch black, got out of my van, then got knocked down by another car!” Shakey’s wife and children were unhurt in the crash but Shakey suffered a nasty injury to his toes. Shane has begun his preparations for the 2012 season as he attempts to lift his 3rd British Superbike title on the Rapid Solicitors Kawasaki.
Andrew Baldwin at Rapid said “Warm weather testing starts for most teams as soon as the new year begins. I understand Shakey is working hard on his fitness including long cycling and running sessions in the Spanish mountains. I hope the injury to his foot following the traffic accident wont delay his preparations. I’m sure he’ll be fine. I thought he was the stand-out rider in 2011 and had the new points system not been introduced he’d have won the title. His last BSB title was in 2008 on the Airwaves Ducati before 2 years competing on the world stage. I’m certain this will be the year Shakey will be crowned 3 times British Superbike champion.”
