Electrical plant worker wins £2800 compensation for cut wrist
Susan York was working on a machine which produces electrical components from wide strips of metal, when she suffered a laceration to her wrist. Susan explained: “When the accident happened, I’d been working on metal strips which were about six inches wide which came on a coiled rolled to be fed through the machine. At one point, the metal became stuck in the feeder and coiled up. I cut my wrist badly while trying to clear it.” She contacted personal injury law experts Rapid Solicitors to make a claim for compensation. A Solicitor at Rapid said: “Mrs York’s injury was bad enough to keep her off work for six weeks. In our view, it was another example of how an employee was allowed to operate without sufficient personal protective equipment against the risks involved. We obtained the necessary witness statements, first aider reports and medical evidence. We also gathered evidence relating to the machine involved, maintenance records, previous accidents and so on. We persuaded the Defendants to admit liability early on. Our client’s case resulted in the employer issuing protective gloves and barriers around the machine, as well as compensation for her pain, suffering and permanent scarring.” Mrs York added: “The accident was just one of those things. The money was a help and I’m grateful for Rapid and what they did for me.”
