Meat factory worker wins £8,500 payout for fall Injuries
Susan Wade was working at a meat processing plant when she went to help a colleague with her processing machine. Mrs Wade explained: “The meat is in bins which are loaded onto forks at the end of the machine. The forks lift the bins up and tip the meat into a container at the top. The container became jammed with meat, so we had to lift it up to clear the blockage. It was too heavy for us. I fell and hit my head on the metal fencing behind.” She suffered a fractured elbow and injuries to her head and lower back, which took months to heal. She made a claim for accident compensation with Rapid Solicitors. A Solicitor at Rapid said: “It’s important that people pursue claims of this nature, because it encourages employers to take the greatest care with the health and safety of its employees. We argued that Mrs Wade had been allowed to adopt an unsafe system of work and that the employer had failed to make sure that good lifting practices were employed. We gathered all the evidence and gained an admission of liability from the Defendants.” Mrs Wade was awarded substantial damages in settlement for her injuries and loss of earnings. Her Solicitor continued: “We had to fight for Mrs Wade’s rightful amount of compensation. The Defendants put an offer forward, but that didn’t match our valuation based on previous case law. We managed also to get Mrs Wade an interim payment, awaiting the final settlement, which was a help because she had suffered loss of earnings.”
