Substantial payout for young mother injured in police car crash
Louise Connelly was injured when a police patrol car ploughed into the back of the one in which she was a passenger. Louise explained: “I was sitting in the back of the car, when I saw a police car following us. The driver flashed his lights indicating we should pull over, so we pulled over into a lay-by and stopped. We were not doing anything wrong, but a car full of young people in an expensive car must have made the officer suspicious. He followed us into the lay-by and just ran into the back of us. I think, because our engine was still running, he might have thought we were about to drive off.” Ms Connelly suffered muscle and nerve damage to the middle of her back. She contacted personal injury law experts Rapid Solicitors, to make a claim for compensation. A Solicitor at Rapid said: “This was a straightforward rear end shunt, resulting in what is commonly known as whiplash injury. Our client, unfortunately, already had an existing arthritic condition from birth, so the collision significantly worsened that. Our client told us that, on some days, she was actually unable to get out of bed and had to rely on her 13 year old son to help her with household chores and shopping. For quite a while, she had to make several shopping trips on the same day to her nearby supermarket because she could hardly carry anything. The Defendants quickly admitted liability. Our client started filming the following police car on her mobile phone and so actually caught the incident on camera. It’s usually the other way around! We employed a medical expert to determine how much her present condition was worsened by the accident and to assess her additional crash injuries.” Mrs Connelly said: “I was surprised at how quickly Rapid Solicitors were able to win the case. I was very happy with the amount of compensation, which was more than I expected, too. My injuries made it a depressing time, but the money helped me treat my son, who was a little star in helping his mum out. I’m really grateful to Rapid Solicitors”
